Okay, so that might not be the most attractive picture but hopefully you’ll stick with me through this post.
As I have mentioned before, I like my breakfasts to be protein filled. I can never find sugar-free, not weird breakfast sausage at the store. It always has additives of some sort that I don’t like. Why can’t they just make plain turkey sausage?! Well, if they can’t then I will. Here it is:
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground turkey (can use other meat if preferred, like ground pork)
1 egg
a little less then 1/2 cup ground flaxseeds
~1/2 tbs. sea salt
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 F.
Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
Use a nonstick pan or spray with your preferred nonstick spray (I use Winona Pure 100% Olive Oil cooking spray).
Spread your turkey mixture into the pan and bake for 30 minutes.
Let cool then cut into individual sausage “patties.” They freeze very well. I usually make them and throw them in the freezer, then just pull one out in the morning and pop it into the microwave for 30-45 seconds.
I like to make my own turkey sausage because I know it is clean and there is not frying involved. Win-win if you ask me!
Variations including adding spices. I like it plain because then it goes with any breakfast I have that morning, but you could add some chili powder for a kicker version, some basil and rosemary for more flavor, or add chopped onion (1/4-1/2 an onion) and garlic powder. Lots of options here to really make it your own. This is just a basic place for you to start!
